Day 13

Hello! woke up and made some awesome oatmeal.. put some applesauce and mangos in there. Yum. I love mangos. Today I am going to try and do a hike into the canyon.. its about a 5 hour hike. I wanted to hike down the bottom and damp and come up the next day but you have to have a permit that can take up to three months in advance to get—didn’t know that boooo. I was super bummed. But that would be fun to go down with a friend so maybe in the fall or something. So many things I want to doooo!

Well its 8:30am and I feel like its so late already. Its funny how time is. I wake up at aout 5:30am--- wake up and get out of my tent by 6. Make breakfast load up my tent and start to write edit photos.. that gets me! I get in the zone and its almost 9! How does that happen!? I will have service soon in cali. Posts soon!

I went to hike down the Bright Angel Trail today. I wanted to go to the bottom but they were saying that you had to start real early.. then I wanted to go to the Bright Angel camp grounds.. and they said it was like a 8-12 hour hike. Im like well shit.. that’s a long time. So I was going to just to go the three mile point.  This guy and I were neck and neck for a long time and we started talking. He was going to plateau point, which was 6 miles down and 6 miles up. Were both in good shape so we went for it- he convinced me. Im so glad I did it was beautiful. I know now that I can def do rim to rim next time im here. All the way down one day, camp and then up the other side the next.

The hike was so beautiful. When you get further and further down you look up and think, "Wow! I just came down that?!" It was pretty hot on the way down.. but I love the heat so it wasn’t bad.. just drank lots of water and ate every hour or so to keep my energy up. The sun is brutal as soon as we got closer to the bottom, there was hardly anymore wind. When we got to Plateau Point, we both felt so accomplished! The view a beautiful, the river was below with little tiny rafts. You could see the trail to the river, it was three more miles. We replenished on water and snacks, talked to some other people that made it to the bottom as well. When we decided to head up, it started to thunder and dark clouds rolled in. About a mile in to the accent, it started raining, it was amazing. What a relief of coolness and a nice breeze. I think it only took us something like 3 hours total to get to the top. If there wouldnt have been rain, it could have easily taken at least an hour and a half more. I couldn’t believe that it hardly took us any time to get to the top again. The hardest part was the last mile, it was pretty steep and after 11 miles.. it was working me out! It was worth every step and it really wasn’t that bad.  Im so glad that I got to hike in the canyon. Next time Havasu Falls or rim to rim, Im already looking forward to it and I know what to expect. So I will be prepared. That’s a cool thing about traveling. You can check it out see whats up with where your at and then next time you have a better feel and know what to expect.
